How healthy is the air in your home?
According To the EPA, the air in many homes is more polluted than the air outside. Our homes are closed up tight during the winter heating season and when our air conditioners are in use in the summer. In order to be energy efficient, we seal the exterior of our homes and insulate to save on utility costs. The downside is that little fresh air enters our homes. Dirt and dust that’s trapped in our homes is circulated and re-circulated through our air ducts. Some of the these unhealthy air particles build up and accumulate inside our air ducts. To make matters worse, more dust and dirt are being introduced to the indoor air on a daily basis. Basic fiberglass air filters are not capable of trapping or removing most of these irritants. Because of this build up of pollutants in home air ducts, the quality of the air we breathe indoors has become an increasingly important environmental concern.
Dirty air ducts affect the health of your family
- Most people spend 60% to 90% of their time indoors
- 20% of all illnesses are either caused by or aggravated by polluted indoor air
- Studies have shown that two out of three indoor air quality problems involve the HVAC/Air Duct System
- One out of six people who suffer from allergies do so because of fungi and bacteria in air duct systems
- 10-12 million Americans suffer from asthma
- Children and the elderly are especially affected by polluted indoor air
- Typical fiberglass furnace filters are less than 7% efficient at filtering out unhealthy air particles
Are dirty air ducts affecting the health of your family?
- Does anyone suffer from allergies or asthma or respiratory problems?
- Does anyone suffer from headaches, nasal congestion, or other sinus problems?
- Do you notice a musty stale odor when furnace or air conditioning runs?
- Is there dust on your furniture shortly after cleaning?
- Do you have dogs, cats, or other pets?
- Is there a smoker in your home?
- Is your furnace equipped with only a standard throw away fiberglass filter?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, it may be time to have your air ducts professionally cleaned
Air ducts are hidden behind walls and ceilings in your home. They’re out of sight, but dust and dirt are accumulating in them every day. These contaminants are continually re-circulated and we breathe them in. On average it’s a good idea to have your air ducts cleaned every 2-3 years. It is also a good idea to have your ducts cleaned after home remodeling projects. These projects add large of amounts of dust into your home’s ductwork.
